Creating Connections

July 18-19 & Sept 19-20

Hawthorn, Victoria

A special opportunity to experience a taste of the OASES program in sustainability and social change: Join experienced facilitators Dr Jenni Goricanec and Eleni Rivers in a short course to create your own bridges between art, spirituality, religion, science, language and culture.

This course uses artistic processes to create sparks of enlightenment – those ‘aha’ moments of clarity in understanding.

Course Content

An aesthetic experience is the spark of enlightenment or connection in an ‘aha’ moment when things make sense and everything becomes clear! Such a bridging moment has been described by James Joyce as ‘aesthetic arrest’.

This course will assist participants to create their own bridges between many and varied ways of knowing, crossing disciplinary divides between art, spirituality, religion and science.

Through a series of visual explorations, using a variety of materials and concepts, participants will become familiar with a connected approach to aesthetics by way of drawing, painting, experimenting and map making.

Entering into the aesthetic experience opens up creativity that will be brought into physical form, through individual and group projects. Shared portals create cultural connections across discipline, language and culture.

Course Facilitators

Dr. Jenni Goricanec
Jenni engages with people by drawing on their own ways of knowing and understanding. She orients people toward the “pull” of future intentions, rather than the blind “push” of past habits and “best practice”. She encourages people to break out of their cognitive silos, to think laterally and to focus on the whole problem in all its inter-disciplinary complexity.
Eleni Rivers
Eleni is an artist, teacher and cultural creative. She has taught a variety of art classes for over 25 years in colleges, corporations and monasteries. Her paintings explore dreams, myth, nature, and cycles of life.
